Although this is the most obvious component of Meaningful Money, I also wanted to explicitly name why this piece is so key and how we actually create it.
We’re diving into the courage and vulnerability it really takes to do work you love + how to infuse your values into your marketing so it feels just as fulfilling!

This isn’t to share as the “right” way, but I’ve had several of you reach out sharing how helpful it was as we navigate this week together with sensitivity and care for our community members who are the most impacted. I hope it can be a starting place for you with your own communities.

Hello, hello y’all! And welcome back to the show. Wow! For some reason 30 episodes is feeling significant for a podcast that started as a joke and maybe even a desperate attempt to create some sort of feeling of control in a season where so many things felt anything but. But we’re here – ep 30 and at the end of the DreamMoney series as we’ve been diving into the D-R-E-A-M.
I’m so proud of us! Before we dive in today though, there are a couple of important announcements that I’m so excited to share with you!! And I also wanted to take pause with the current events that are happening in Palestine and Israel since we’ve talked last. As a US based company with a global community, I want you all to know I don’t have nearly enough insight into the complexities, the history, the nuances that would offer me the ability to speak to these events with nearly the sensitivity and care that they deserve, but here at Megan Hale Co, I will always stand against innocent lives being lost. What is happening right now is absolutely horrific.
To my Jewish friends, especially, I can only imagine the layers these events are pulling to the surface for you currently and ancestrally. And the same is true for my Muslim friends. I don’t even know if it’s politically correct to put this in terms of religion or nationality. I don’t know. But I want you to know you are important and you matter. Your family matters. Your safety matters. And to those of you who are in a similar situation trying to figure out what to say and what not to say – it’s okay for you to own that. No one can expect you to know all the details or history of the world. But when we see innocent lives being lost, it’s so important we take a stand and explicitly denounce it.
You know this week is a promotional week for us as I’m reopening the doors to Flow and before I said yes to that, it was important that I find a way to serve our community who needs the work I offer while also not just carrying on as business as usual. All this week, there’s a header in my emails that brings attention to it and I am in no way saying it’s right or it’s the way to go, but I have had several of you reach out and tell me thank you for including it and giving you a model for crafting your own message.
Running a business is learning to lean into how you want to lead, how you want to hold space, how you want to acknowledge the atrocities that happen in this world and my god, the level of atrocities that we have navigated the past 8 years I’ve been in business have been horrific. It is so tender continuing to run your business in a climate that can make promotion feel really insensitive. And I think we’re all finding our way here.
What I know is that we belong to each other. There’s no such thing as other people’s children. And when there is propaganda meant to dehumanize other people because of their race, their nationality, their religion – it is not okay. I know we are all being flooded by images and video and heartbreaking truths. I don’t want you to look away. But I also want you to take care of yourself. Find your boundaries to tend to your needs. Donate if you’re able. And acknowledge what’s going on. It’s especially important for your community members who are feeling scared and helpless as war burns everything in its path.
As always, I will never have all the answers, but I will always be a safe space for you to figure out your own. A copy of my community message is linked down in the show notes if it’s helpful. Let it be a starting place if it feels aligned for how you want to address this with your community. It’s not business as usual. Name it.
With that, our segue into our announcements are going to feel very polar to everything I just shared, but it’s also important that we continue this money work in the midst of these events because it puts us all in a position of greater power to help. And there are a couple of ways to do that this week!

And now onto our episode…
Out of all the ways we create more meaning between us and our money, today’s topic is likely going to be the most obvious – and still, I wanted to explicitly name it because chances are when you think about Meaningful Money – this is the first thing you think about. Being able to make a living doing what you love, what you’re exceptional at, and doing it in a way that invites you to be a fuller expression of who you are.
If you’re listening right now, I know you feel that. I know you want that. I know that’s a big part of what makes up having a rich life for you.
Afterall, there’s nothing better than the lived experience of seeing payment after payment come into your business while also receiving those messages & moments with your people as they say “thank you, I’m so grateful for you, you have changed my friggin’ life.”
The problem, of course, is that most of us hear the latter long before those big dollars come rolling in, which is why my work is to help you have both.
So today’s topic is all around how to step into meaningful money through meaningful earning and meaningful marketing, because BOTH offer us rich opportunities to infuse our values, our gifts, our special magic to leave a unique mark on the world – most oftentimes one person at a time. And my most successful clients never lose sight of that.
When clients come into my world, sometimes they have no 1:Many offer, which is our first step that opens them up to more earning and more impact. Other times, they do have a 1:Many offer, but it’s not as deep as they can go into the impact they’re here to make, the transformation they want to provide.
Either way, the work is the same. How can we go deeper? How can we dream bigger? How can we take that first step in that direction?
Meaningful earning comes down to really getting clear on the movement you’re here to lead. It comes down to thinking bigger than just the dollars, but the cultural shift you want to help make and how you can intentionally build community around this shift amongst people who will become clients and far more who never will. And we need them both!
Meaningful earning comes down to creating offers that help people get more access to your wisdom that is far greater than what a 1:1 format could reach on its own. So many therapists and coaches I know have waiting lists of people waiting to work with them. Because they’ve found YOU. They want you! And they’re willing to wait until a spot opens up just for them.
But what if they didn’t have to wait? What if there was always an open door? That’s what 1:Many offers can create. Because, yes – sometimes our 1:Many offers will be cohort based that start only 1 or 2 times a year, but we can also blend that with other 1:Many offers that maybe are always open or open even more regularly.
There is nothing more fulfilling to me as a creator and as a creative than seeing my offers intentionally hold my wisdom, of doing the hard work, but the right work, of distilling my wisdom into curriculum, podcast episodes, a book one day (who knows) that allows me to help more people whether I’m there or not.
This work isn’t new. Any thought leader you’ve ever learned from has taken this path of distilling and translating both their knowledge and their knowing into something that is documented. And although so much of my work is helping you put offers around that documentation, it’s really the process of helping you develop your thought leadership and build your body of work that makes my approach so rich.
What I notice amongst my smartest, most gifted clients is there is usually the most doubt to navigate. Do they really know enough? Is what they know really that big a deal? Doesn’t everybody know what they know? What makes their approach so special and unique? And of course, the “who are they’s” show up right alongside them too? Who are they to create a certification? Who are they to create a group program that has the audacity to show people how something is done?
And every single time, there’s an internal shift that happens where they stop quoting other thought leaders and start quoting themselves.
It’s this internal shift that makes programs sell. It’s this internal shift that qualms that self-doubt. It’s this internal shift that encourages them to take up space. Because they finally realized no one was coming to give them a gold star or certification that told them they were ready. They had to give that star to themselves.
We have to believe we’re the ones. And yes, it will feel audacious. It may even feel at some level narcissistic because so many of us have been conditioned to be confident but not too confident, to take up space, but not too much space, to know your stuff, but don’t come across as you know your stuff. Always be humble. Which quite easily translates into not fully owning your genius, your brilliance, your magic.
You know what’s interesting is this same shift of owning your greatness, which I call your Big Deal Energy, it’s the same shift we have to make to hold more money and allow that to be okay.
I’ve been reading Tori Dunlap’s Financial Feminist lately and Im kind of obsessed with her. She started her business at the age of 25 and she’s just a powerhouse and I’m here for it! But I’ve been nodding along during the first chapter just listening to all the ways women especially are fed so much bullshit when it comes to money.
So many of us shy away from stepping into more money subconsciously because of the power it holds. Which P.S. there’s a powerful episode on Wild & Holy Radio on the topic of Power and Money. Definitely check it out in the show notes. And I’ll definitely be recording another one that breaks this down even further through an intersectional lens.
But what I know is the same reason we shy away from stepping into more earning is also why we shy away from standing in our knowing, our knowledge, our gifts and believing in them from a place of confidence and conviction. Because both equate to power. And for most of us, all we’ve ever seen and known are the abuses of it.
Which is all the more reason more of us need to step into it and shift what power means. That instead of it creating injustices, it can create more equity. Instead of it creating oppression, it can create more liberation. Instead of it creating harm, it can create more healing. Instead of it creating more hate, it can create more love.
I’m not a utopian by any means. I don’t think we’ll ever get to a place of world peace and that also doesn’t mean I don’t strive for it. But I do believe in balancing the powers that be and its through this balance that we can reach a tipping point shifting the majority and ushering in a different world.
You stepping into more meaningful earning is part of that. Because I know you’re here to shift the world with your work. To do things better. To bring more wisdom to how things are done. To create more space for minority voices to be more heard. And maybe even re-establish, reconnect, and elevate ancient wisdom that colonialism has tried to snuff out, which has literally harmed us all. That’s my bigger why of you stepping into more meaningful earning. The fulfillment you want will naturally come with it. That’s simply a byproduct of doing your holy work in the world.
But the new paradigms that you’ll usher in by doing so is what will ripple out for years and even generations to come.
Meaningful earning is about so much more than just the money. It’s the shifts that happen internally that make more meaningful earning possible and the shifts that happen externally by standing in your wisdom, allowing more people to get access to it, and shifting the way things are done.
Meaningful earning, by the way, doesn’t have to be connected to more meaningful marketing, but I think our marketing is SUCH a deep place of influence and opportunity for us to also shift how things are done.
If you’re here, I know you stand against bro-culture, manipulative sales tactics, shame-based selling, FOMO based selling, and literally all the shitty ways capitalism has seeped into preying on fears and insufficiencies to make a buck.
When we develop meaningful marketing that stands in our values of service, connection, and belonging – this is also something that shifts our world forward, allows us to show up with more confidence, and creates an intentional culture around our business that also helps us become more deeply seen and widely known.
I pride myself on being known for my marketing. I pride myself on the way I mentor my clients to market. I pride myself on how this community stands against specific marketing practices and how together we’re ushering in a new way of making sales that honors peoples sovereignty, safety, and knowing.
When we create meaningful marketing, what we’re really doing is showcasing our values. When I’m creating marketing strategy, my first question is how do I want my people to feel when they’re in an invitation process with me?
Do I want them to feel confident, clear, unrushed, certain, ready to make the investment?
How can I facilitate those feelings through my strategy?
So many people think marketing is creating that know, like, and trust factor. And of course that’s part of it, but it can also be manipulated too.
What I prefer is showcasing my expertise that builds trust.
Giving people an experience of my work that allows them to more deeply know it.
And sharing my story and truths vulnerably, which allows others to relate, connect, and see that something similar is possible for them.
The timelines we choose, the tactics we choose, the way we frame the problem our people are experiencing are all subtle ways we can be more meaningful with our marketing. Or simply considering the person on the other side.
Afterall, if we don’t have marketing that feels aligned with our values, the money we earn won’t necessarily feel as meaningful.
When we have both meaningful earning and meaningful marketing, this adds such a deeper richness to our money.
